1. Disconnect any cables connecting the printer to a computer. Restart the computer to ensure that it is no longer attempting to communicate with the printer.
2. Remove any paper or ink cartridges inside the printer. If there is a paper jam in the Officejet, be sure to remove the paper not only from the printer tray, but also whatever pieces might be stuck within the printer's inner workings. Be sure to lock down the clips that normally hold the ink cartridges once they have been removed.
3. Turn off the printer. Once it has completely shut down, detach the printer from the power cables, and unplug the power cables from the wall outlet.
4. Remove the rear access door on the printer. Locate the white clutch on the back of the printer's interior.
5. Roll the printer wheels upward two complete rotations while pressing the printer clutch toward the back of the printer. The toothed wheels can be found in the back of the printer along either side.
6. Roll the printer wheels two more rotations after letting go of the clutch.
7. Replace the rear access door, and reconnect the printer to the power cable and plug it in to an outlet. Also, place the ink cartridges back into their proper places in the printer.
8. Turn on the printer and print a test page. If it comes out correctly, connect the printer to the computer and attempt a regular printing job to ensure it is now functioning correctly.
