1. Make sure the USB Cable is securely connected to both your computer and the printer.
2. Check to see if the software for the printer is installed on your computer. To do this, Click START, PROGRAMS, ALL PROGRAMS, DELL PRINTERS and Dell PHOTO PRINTER 720. If the 'Dell PHOTO PRINTER 720' does not appear on the menu, then you will need to install the printer software. To install the printer software, obtain the CD entitled Drivers and Utilities that came with your printer. When the pop up installation box comes up, click Install.
3. Re-connect the USB cable by removing it from both the computer and printer. Turn your printer off and unplug the electrical cord. Re-connect the power cable and the USB cable. Turn the printer back on. Restart your computer. Sometimes there is a communication error between the two devices.
Printer Problems
1. Check to see if the Printer has been stalled. For Windows XP, choose START, CONTROL PANEL, PRINTERS, OTHER HARDWARE, PRINTERS AND FAXES, DELL PHOTO PRINTERS 720, then click PRINTER. Make sure there is no checkmark by PAUSE PRINTER. Similarly, in Windows 2000, click START, SETTINGS, PRINTERS, DELL PHOTO PRINTER 720, then PRINTER. Again, make sure there is no check mark by Pause Printing.
2. Determine if the ink cartridges are installed correctly by checking to see if both the tape and sticker have been removed from both the ink and colored ink cartridge.
3. Make sure the power cord to the printer is firmly secured in the power outlet.
Paper Problems
1. Make sure the paper is properly loaded in the printer. To check this, make sure the paper is next to the guide on the right side of the paper holder. Next, slide the left paper guide to the left edge of the paper. The right edge of the paper should now be against the right paper guide. The paper should be flat against the paper holder.
2. Ensure that you didn't overfill your paper holder. The Dell Photo Printer 720 typically holds 100 pieces of regular paper. The holder only holds up to 25 greeting cards, post cards, photo cards, 25 sheets of photo or glossy paper, 20 transparencies, 10 envelopes or 1 iron-on transfer. Do not try to stuff more than the maximum amount for the paper type into the paper carrier.
3. Use only paper that is not wrinkled or torn.
4. Check for a paper jam by seeing if the last loaded sheet of paper is easily removed. If not, turn off the printer and grasp the paper and pull it slowly from the printer. Re-insert a fresh, non-wrinkled piece of paper. Try printing again.
