A Canon Printer Won't Recognize the Cartridge

1. Check your printer's LCD screen for any messages. There may be a message saying that a color of ink is low. Press the 'OK' button until there are no messages left.
2. Print a test page to see if the ink is working. Sometimes the built-in chip that tells the computer how much ink the cartridge has is faulty. It's a slight annoyance, but won't affect the cartridge's ability to print.
3. Remove the cartridge from the printer and make sure the thin plastic tab on the bottom is completely gone. If it was removed incorrectly, it can block the ink from flowing.
4. Dip the Q-tip in rubbing or isopropyl alcohol and wipe gently around the ink dispenser as well as the ink well in the printer. Dried bits of ink or dirt can clog the ink from flowing.
5. Contact the manufacturer if none of the troubleshooting steps work. Yours may be a faulty cartridge, and Canon has a return and replacement policy for broken merchandise.
