How to Acquire a Scanner with GIMP in Ubuntu (7 Steps)

1. Click the Ubuntu icon at the top left corner of the screen, type 'Ubuntu Software' without quotes into the application search box that appears and press 'Enter.'
2. Type 'XSane' without quotes into the search box at the top right corner of the Ubuntu Software Center window that appears.
3. Click 'XSane Image Scanning Program' in the list and click 'Install.'
4. Type your password into the password box that appears and press 'Enter.'
5. Open the GIMP by clicking the Ubuntu icon at the top left corner of the screen, typing 'GIMP' without quotes into the search box and pressing 'Enter.'
6. Right-click the main GNU Image Manipulator window, click 'File,' point to 'Create,' point to 'XSane' and click the name of your scanner.
7. Adjust your scanning settings by clicking the options that appear in the XSane dialog, if desired, and then click 'Scan.' The image appears in a GIMP window.
