1. Push the 'Menu' button on the front panel of the Brother 4100E, and then push the '*' (asterisk), '2,' '8,' '6' and '4' buttons. After pushing the asterisk button, you have two seconds to press the other four digits. If you enter the code correctly, the Brother 4100E displays the word 'MAINTENANCE' and emits a tone.
2. Push the '1' and '0' buttons on the front panel. This allows you to edit the firmware switches for the fax machine.
3. Push the '2' button twice to enter the menu for the fax machine's error correcting function.
4. Push the '1' button to edit the error correction settings for sending faxes. Push '1' again to disable ECM.
5. Push '9' to return to the main error correcting menu.
6. Push the '2' button to access the error correction settings for receiving faxes. Push the '1' button to disable ECM.
7. Push the '9' button twice to leave maintenance mode and save your changes.
