1. Connect the USB to 8-pin serial adapter into an available USB port. This adapter allows you to connect the HP Laserjet 4 Plus to your computer through the USB port.
2. Insert the adapter's driver installation CD into the computer and wait for the installation wizard to load. Accept the license agreement and follow the remaining prompts to complete the installation.
3. Connect the 8-pin serial cable to the 'Out' port on the back of the HP printer. Attach the other end of the cable to the 8-pin serial side of the adapter.
4. Insert the HP Laserjet 4 Plus installation disk into the floppy disk drive of your computer. More than likely, if you have a new computer you do not have a floppy disk drive. If this is the case, you can purchase a floppy disk drive that connects to a computer via USB cable.
5. Open 'My Computer' (or 'Computer,' depending on the version of Windows you are running). Double-click the floppy disk drive icon to open the disk and select the 'Run' icon (there is also going to be '.exe' next to it). Follow the prompts of the wizard to installation the drivers onto the computer. Once all set, you may be asked to restart the computer. Upon restart, you can begin using your HP Laserjet 4 Plus printer via the USB port on your computer.
