1. Right-click the 'My Computer' icon on the Windows desktop and select 'Properties.' Click the 'Advanced' tab, and then press the 'Environment Variables' button.
2. Click the 'New' button in the main environment window. This opens a dialogue box where you can add a parameter.
3. Type 'devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices' into the variable name, and enter a value of '1.' This forces Windows to show hidden device drivers, so you are sure to remove old drivers not in use. Click the 'OK' button.
4. Click the 'Device Manager' button in 'Hardware' tab. This opens a list of hardware devices on the machine. Click the 'View' menu option, and select 'Show Hidden Devices.'
5. Right-click each device you no longer use or want to remove, and select 'Uninstall.' This deletes the device driver from Windows.
