1. Open the toner cartridge cover on the printer and remove the toner cartridge. Sit the cartridge on a cloth or group of paper towels. This will allow you to determine if the toner cartridge is leaking.
2. Clean the area under the toner cartridge with a small vacuum cleaner. The type of vacuum used to clean computer components works best. Continue cleaning the interior of the printer until all of the toner residue and paper dust is removed. Wipe the interior of the printer with a soft cloth to remove any remaining residue.
3. Turn the toner cartridge over and examine it carefully for any signs of leakage. Check the cloth or paper towels for ink residue as well. If the toner cartridge is leaking it should be replaced at once. A leaking toner cartridge can contaminate the entire paper path.
4. Insert one or two laser printer cleaning sheets in the paper tray and run them through the printer. These sheets have a slightly sticky surface that attracts paper dust and ink residue.
