How to Hook Up a Laptop to a Printer

1. Turn off the laptop. Attach one end of the computer cable to the printer and the other end to either the USB or parallel port on the laptop.
2. Boot your laptop. A screen will pop up to tell you that new hardware has been found. If your operating system recognizes the printer, the appropriate drivers will automatically install and your printer will be ready to use.
3. Use the browse button in the pop-up window to locate the print driver files if the system doesn't recognize the printer. This may mean inserting a CD into the CD drive or, in rare cases, a floppy disk into the floppy drive. If you downloaded the drivers from the Internet, locate the files on your hard drive and click 'OK.' The drivers will then install.
4. Reboot the laptop if requested by the operating system. The printer will then be installed on your laptop and be ready to use.
