How to Save on Printer Ink

1. Purchase discount ink cartridge replacements or refurbished cartridges. These cartridges often cost quite a bit less than new ink cartridges.
2. Print in 'Draft Mode.' Consumer Reports tested several printer brands and found that they used less ink when they printed in 'Draft Mode.'
3. Print in black and white whenever you can. Printing color pictures and graphics uses up a lot of ink, so print these pages in black and white. Your color ink cartridges will last a lot longer.
4. Preview the print job and print only the pages you need. Most printing software allows you to view the job and pick which pages you want to print. This will save you from using extra paper as well.
5. Use an ink refill kit. If you follow the instructions carefully and work in an area where you can make a mess, you can save a lot of money by refilling your own cartridges.
