How to Troubleshoot an HP J4680 (9 Steps)

1. Take out the loose paper in the printer’s input tray. Do not pull out any stuck paper at this point.
2. Unplug the USB cable from the printer and turn the machine off. Open the back door by pressing on the tab on the left side.
3. Pull out any stuck paper. Rotate the paper rollers and remove any small pieces of paper stuck to them.
4. Close the back door. Open the printer’s front door and pull out any stuck paper.
5. Open the cartridge access door and remove any stuck paper. Close the cartridge access and the front door, then plug the USB cable back into the printer. Print a self-test report to verify that the problem has been solved by pressing the 'Power' button, hitting 'Setup,' hitting the 'Right Arrow' button to select 'Print Report' and hitting 'OK,' then hitting the 'Right Arrow' button again to select 'Self-Test Report' and pressing 'OK.'
Bleeding Printouts
1. Make sure you are using the correct side of the paper if it's meant to print on just one side. Then open the document you are trying to print and click on “File” then “Print.” Click on the “Properties” button
2. Select the tab labeled “Basics,” then click on the “Advanced Features” button. Move the slider labeled “Ink Volume” to the left and move the slider labeled “Dry Time” to the right, then click “OK” to accept the changes.
3. Press the “Setup” button on the printer, then use the arrow keys to highlight “Tools” on the printer’s display. Use the arrow keys to select “Clean Print Cartridge,” then press the “OK” button.
4. Run another cleaning cycle on the printer if the self-test printout still shows streaked colors. If the printer continues to have problems, replace the ink cartridges.
