How to Troubleshoot an HP Office Jet Scanner Failure

1. Open the scanner cover while the scanner is making a copy and notice if the scanner's light is working. If the scanner's light is not working but the scanner mechanism is moving under the glass, take the printer to a repair shop.
2. Check on the temperature of the room where the Office Jet is located. Office Jet printers are not meant to work in temperatures that are too hot or cold. Refer to your printer's user's manual for the exact temperatures the printer needs to be in.
3. Check the printer's power cord for any damage or fraying. Unplug the cord from a power strip or backup battery and plug it directly into a wall outlet. Press the 'Start Color Copy' button and see if the scanner works. If it does not, continue troubleshooting the error.
4. Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord from its outlet and the back of the printer. Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back into the outlet and printer. Turn the printer back on and press the 'Start Color Copy' button. If the error message continues to display continue troubleshooting.
5. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and hold the '#' and '3' buttons on the printer. Keep holding the buttons down as you plug the power cord back into the printer, then release the buttons. Press the 'Start Color Copy' button again and see if the error message comes up again. If it does, disconnect the power cord again and hold down the '#' and '6' buttons until you plug the power cord back in. Press the 'Start Color Copy' button again. If the error message still comes up, take the printer to a repair shop.
