1. Grip the bottom of the control panel at the middle of the Officejet printer. Lift upward until the entire top half locks into place so the internal components are visible.
2. Wait five seconds for the inkjet cartridge carriage to move into position at the center of the printer. Press down the plastic lid on the top of both the color and black cartridges. Pull both cartridges out of the carriage.
3. Check the bottom edge of both cartridges to ensure the short strip of tape has been completely removed. Pull off the tape if any portion remains. Push the cartridges back into position in their corresponding carriages and push down the plastic lids on top to lock them in place.
4. Push down the top half of the printer into its original position. Locate the small plastic paper indicator on the paper feed at the back of the printer. Slide the indicator out to the edge of the paper feed if you are using normal sized paper, or slide the indicator to the appropriate length if you are using a smaller size paper.
5. Tap the 'Menu' button on the front control panel. Use the arrow button to navigate to the 'Maintenance' option and tap 'OK.' Highlight 'Clean Print Cartridges' and tap 'OK.'
6. Wait until the cleaning process finishes running and unplug the Officejet's power cable. Plug the cable back in after five seconds and tap the 'Menu' button again. Navigate to 'Maintenance' and hit 'OK.'
7. Navigate to the 'Align Print Cartridges' option and hit 'OK' to start the alignment process again.
