How to Troubleshoot an HP Officejet J5750 (4 Steps)

1. Check your wires. Instead of a serial port, the HP Officejet J5750 uses a USB cable. Make sure the USB cord is firmly attached to both the printer and your computer. Also ensure that the cable is connected directly to the computer (not to a hub).
2. Clear paper jams. Even if a small piece of paper is torn during the printing process, a jam can occur. To clear jammed paper, press down on the tab on the left side of the rear door to release the printer door. Then, use tweezers to remove jammed paper from between the printer's rollers.
3. Perform a self-test. The self test function checks the printhead alignment and ink cartridges. To perform the test, press the 'Setup' button and select 'Print Report' and then 'Self-Test Report' from the menu. If there is a problem with the ink cartridges, the colors on the self-test will seem faded or will not appear at all. If this is the case, try cleaning the bottom of the ink cartridges or replacing them.
4. If your printed documents seem crooked or off-center, you may need to re-align the printhead. Turn on your computer and open the HP Solution Center software. Click on the 'Settings' button, go to 'Print Settings', and then click on 'Printer Toolbox'. Then click the 'Device Services' tab and select 'Align the Print Cartridges'. Your printer will make a noise and then a notification will pop up indicating that the operation has finished.
