How to Reset Toner Light in an HL 2140 Printer

1. Turn the printer off.
2. Remove the front of the printer. Grasp the indented handle on the top of the printer near the front and pull gently but firmly. You may need to wiggle it a little.
3. Remove the toner cartridge. This is a bar almost as long as the printer itself near the top of the machine.
4. Shake the cartridge gently back and forth a few times. Sometimes the toner can get clogged in one area, causing the toner light to prematurely illuminate. Shaking the cartridge redistributes the toner and breaks up any clogs.
5. Replace the toner cartridge and start the printer. The machine will re-check the toner, resetting the light. If the light stays off, you have a little more printing ahead of you. If the light turns back on, there's nothing to do but buy another cartridge.
