How to Troubleshoot a Canon Pixma IP1700

1. Check to make sure that the power cord and connection cables are properly and securely connected if a print job is not starting. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into the wall and the printer is connected to your computer's USB port. If you see a green LED light flashing, this means the printer is initializing and you will need to wait a few moments before attempting to print.
2. Make sure that the 'Page Size' setting in the printer driver matches the size of the paper you are using with the printer if your print job is failing to complete. To do this, open 'Print Options' on your computer in the application you are attempting to print from. Change the 'Page Size' if it does not match the paper that is loaded in the printer.
3. Check the amount of free space on your computer if your print job is stopping suddenly or not printing at all. A lack of hard drive space can deter your printer from printing. Delete unnecessary files if you need to free up hard drive space.
4. Remove the color FINE cartridge and put it back into place if the colors are not printing correctly. To do this, turn on your printer and open the front panel. Push down and remove on the color FINE cartridge, which is the right-most cartridge. Place the cartridge back into place until you hear a clicking noise, which indicates the cartridge is properly inserted. Close the front panel and try printing again.
5. Remove any paper jams that are hindering your printer from completing a print job. To do this, locate the most effective slot for removing the paper. You can choose from the 'Auto Sheet Feeder,' which is located on the front paper tray of the printer or the 'Paper Output Slot,' which is located on the front of the printer as well. Gently pull the paper out of the printer. If any paper tears off, open the front panel and remove any left over scraps.
6. Perform a hard reset on the printer if the previous steps were unsuccessful at solving your problem. Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord from your wall outlet. Wait a minute or two and plug the power cord back into the wall. Try your print job again.
