1. Press the printer's power button until the power turns off. Tap the power button again, and see if the print job automatically starts. Open your computer's 'Start' menu if printing does not begin.
2. Click 'Devices and Printers' if you are using Windows 7. If you use Windows Vista, select 'Control Panel,' and click the 'Printer' option underneath the 'Hardware and Sound' heading.
3. Right-click the entry for the Brother MFC-420 CN printer, and select 'Resume Printing' if the printing is currently paused. Choose 'User Printer Online' if the printer is set to 'offline' mode.
4. Attempt to print a document. Unplug the printer's USB cable from the computer if the device fails to print again. Navigate to the 'Downloads' page for your Brother printer.
5. Choose your computer's operating system from the 'Step1: Choose OS' field. Scroll down, and click your language preference in the 'Step 2: Select Language' field. Click 'Search.'
6. Select the 'Download and Information' link next to the 'Full Driver & Software Package' heading. Click 'Download.' Double-click the 'Setup.exe' file after it downloads, and follow the on-screen installation directions.
7. Restart your computer's operating system. Plug the printer's USB cable back into your computer's USB port, and start a new print job.
