Brother Intellifax 1270 Instructions

1. Place up to 20 pages of the document to be faxed face-down, with the top edge inserted first, in the device's feed tray. Slide both feeder guides toward each other until they touch the edges of your document but do not bend the paper.
2. Press the button labeled 'Resolution' on the device's control panel repeatedly until the desired resolution setting shows on the device's screen. Adjust the contrast for the fax by pressing the 'Function' key along with '1' and '4.'
3. Use the arrow keys to select the contrast level you desire, then press 'Set' to save the setting. Press the 'Stop' button to exit the settings menu.
4. Use the device's numeric keypad to type in the complete telephone number you wish to send the fax to. Press the 'Start' button to begin the fax transmission.
Receiving Faxes
1. Select the 'Menu' button to choose the answering mode for the printer. Use the arrow keys to select either 'On,' 'Semi' or 'Off.'
2. Allow the fax machine to pick up automatically when a fax transmission comes through, if you selected the 'On' answer setting.
3. Pick up the handset on the device when you receive a fax transmission ring if you selected the 'Semi' setting. Wait for the device's screen to display 'Receive,' then hang up the handset.
4. Press the 'Start' button when a fax transmission rings through if you selected the 'Off' answering setting. If you answer with a handset other than the one on the device, press the 'Star' button, then the '5' and '1' keys to start receiving the fax.
Changing the Print Cartridge
1. Press the button located on the top cover and fold the cover backward. Slide the old print cartridge out of its position inside the printer.
2. Dispose of the old cartridge, being careful to keep it level to avoid any spills. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging.
3. Slide out the rubber stopper that runs the width of the middle of the cartridge. Tighten the cartridge's ribbon by turning the black handle on the right side clockwise.
4. Slide the new cartridge into the slot inside the printer. Make sure the arrow on the cartridge points into the printer and not toward you.
5. Close the cover and press down on both sides until they click.
