How to Clear a Carriage Jam on an HP 2610 Printer

1. Find the control panel, located on the printer's top panel, near the right edge. Turn off the printer by pressing the power button, located in the upper-left corner of the control panel. Wait about 15 seconds, then press the power button again.
2. Find the input and output trays, installed on the printer's front panel. Lift the output tray free of the input tray. Push the input tray's paper guides outward and load the tray with plain paper. Slide the paper guides inward and reinstall the output tray.
3. Press the 'setup' button, located to the right of the power button. Press the '2' button on the number pad, followed by '5;' if the printer fails to generate a test page, check for a paper jam as outlined below.
Printer Jam
1. Rotate the printer until the rear panel is in view. Locate the tabs installed on the sides of the rear clean-out door. Push the tabs inward and remove the door from the rear panel.
2. Inspect the interior of the printer and locate the jammed paper. Grip the edges of the paper and carefully pull it free of the rollers. Use your fingertips or a pair of tweezers to remove any pieces of paper that may have torn off the sheet and still remain between the rollers.
3. Fit the rear clean-out door back onto the opening on the rear panel. Push the door onto the panel until you feel it click into place. Press the 'OK' button, located on the control panel, in the center of the navigation buttons. Wait for the printer to resume the print job.
Duplexer Jam
1. Locate the buttons installed on both sides of the duplexer. Push the buttons to disengage the duplexer from the printer. Pull the duplexer away carefully to avoid tearing any paper still in the rollers.
2. Grip the edges of the paper and pull the sheet out of the duplexer. Use your fingertips or a pair of tweezers to remove any pieces of paper still in the duplexer or stuck between the printer's rollers.
3. Return the duplexer to its original location. Push the duplexer against the rear panel until you feel it click into place. Press the 'OK' button to resume the print job.
Carriage Inspection
1. Press the power button to turn the printer on. Grip the front edge of the print cartridge door and lift it up until it is completely open.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the port located on the rear of the printer, near the left edge. Inspect the interior of the printer and examine the path that the print carriage normally travels. Make sure the ink cartridges are installed properly. Use your fingertips or a pair of tweezers to remove any possible obstructions, such as torn paper.
3. Use your hand to slide the print carriage toward the far end of its travel path. If the cartridge is stuck in the middle of its path, slide it towards the right end of the printer. Remove any possible obstructions.
4. Close the print cartridge door. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer. Press 'setup,' '2' and '5' to generate a test page.
Test the Power Supply
1. If the printer is connected to a power strip or surge protector, the problem may be caused by the power supply. Turn off the printer. Unplug the power cord from the printer first, then from the power strip.
2. Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet, then reconnect the cord to the printer.
3. Turn the printer on. Print a test page as described above.
