How to Connect My Epson Printer to My Laptop (3 Steps)

1.
Plug the USB cable into your laptop.
Plug the Epson printer's USB cable into your laptop. Look for a free USB port on the sides or back of your computer. Insert the USB cable into the port. You likely have the cable upside down if it doesn't fit.
2.
Few new computers have parallel ports.
Connect the printer's parallel cable to a parallel port on your laptop if you have an older model without USB. Note that most laptops no longer have parallel ports. These bulky ports are typically black or pink in color. You can also connect a parallel printer to your laptop using a USB-to-paralell adapter, however.
3. Ensure that the other end of the USB or parallel cable is attached to the printer. Make sure the power cable is plugged in and turn the printer on. Most printers should work automatically in Windows 7, but you may need to install drivers from the CD-ROM that came with the printer. Older parallel printers may not be compatible with newer versions of Windows even if you have an adapter.
