How to Repair Toner Cartridges (7 Steps)

1. Turn the printer off and remove the power cord. Lift the toner cartridge cover and carefully pull the toner cartridge out of the printer.
2. Use a small vacuum cleaner to remove any toner residue and paper dust from the outside of the cartridge. The type of vacuum cleaner used to clean computer components works best.
3. Wipe the outside surface of the toner cartridge to remove any remaining residue. Continue cleaning the cartridge until no more dust or dirt is found.
4. Find the small plastic flap on the bottom of the toner cartridge and move it so the roller is exposed. The easiest way to find this flap is to feel your way along the bottom surface of the cartridge.
5. Wipe the surface of the roller thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. Avoid touching the roller surface with your hands--the oils from your skin could damage it.
6. Push the wheel next to the roller slightly until it moves. Sometimes this roller will get stuck and cause the cartridge to malfunction.
7. Place the toner cartridge back in the printer, then turn on the printer and print a few test pages to make sure the toner cartridge is working properly.
