How to Reset a Printer Cartridge (4 Steps)

1. Purchase a universal chip reset device which changes the chip setting to full on a number of different type of printer cartridges. Or, find a reset device that works just with your make and model of printer cartridge. Be sure the cartridge number is mentioned on the resetter's literature before you buy it.
2. Find the contact pins on the reset device. They are metal pins arranged in a group on the device. These will connect to the contacts on the cartridge to start the reset process.
3. Hold the cartridge and reset device together so the pins and contacts connect. Watch for a red light on the reset device. This indicates a connection is established. Continue to maintain contact between the two devices until you see the successful reset indication. This is a green light on most devices.
4. Remove the cartridge from the reset device and install it in your printer. Select a document on your computer, click 'File' and 'Print'. Check to make sure there is no ink monitor warning on your screen. If there is, it means the reset did not work. Repeat the reset process again until this warning does not appear.
