How to Set Up an HP 4200 Series Network Printer

1. Choose an appropriate location for the printer. Find a sturdy table or other surface off the floor to place the printer, and make sure there is room for at least several inches of space around the printer. Avoid places where the printer will be exposed to direct sunlight or will be near any chemicals.
2. Move the printer to the chosen location using two people. The printer is heavy and will be damaged if you drop it. Open the printer's paper drawers and top cover. Remove any packing material placed inside the printer. Place paper in the printer's paper drawers and close them all the way.
3. Plug the printer's cable into the back of the machine. Plug the printer's power cord into the plug in the back of the printer, and plug the other end into an electrical outlet. Turn on the printer by pressing the switch located on the right-lower side of the printer.
4. Choose the language you want the printer's control panel to display by using the arrow keys on the printer's control panel. Press the button on the control panel that has a check mark on it, then using the arrow keys highlight the 'Information' option on the printer's display. Press the button with the check mark on it once more and use the arrow keys to highlight the option 'Print Configuration.' Press the button with the check mark one last time. The printer will print a configuration page, letting you know that the setup was done correctly.
5. Put the installation CD that came with the printer in the computer's optical drive. The printer's installation software will come up automatically. Follow the on-screen instructions for installing the printer's software and drivers and for configuring the network settings. These instructions will vary depending on the operating system that your computer is using.
