1. Select a computer to serve as the host machine for the printer. The host machine must remain on at all times for the printer to remain available for other computers to use; when the host machine is off, other computers will not be able to print. Insert the software CD included with the PIXMA MP160, follow the prompts to install the device driver and confirm that the host machine can print.
2. Open the Start menu on the host computer, and type 'homegroup' in the 'Search Programs and Files' field at the bottom. Click 'Choose Homegroup and Sharing Options' on the result list. A new window titled 'Share With Other Computers Running Windows 7' appears.
3. Click the 'Create a Homegroup' button at the bottom of the window.
4. Click to select the 'Printers' check box along with the boxes for any other content that you want to share with other computers on your network such as pictures and music. Click 'Next.' The window changes to display an alphanumeric password that you can use to configure the other computers on your network automatically. Write this code down.
5. Open the Start menu on one of your network's other computers, and type 'Homegroup' in the search field. Click the 'Homegroup' icon when it appears on the result list.
6. Click the 'Join Now' button. The window changes to display the title 'Type the Homegroup Password.'
7. Type the alphanumeric code that you recorded in Step 4, and then click 'Next' and 'Finish.'
8. Open the Start menu, and click 'Devices and Printers.' This screen should now display the Canon PIXMA MP160 connected to the host computer.
9. Right-click the icon for the PIXMA MP160, and select 'Set as Default Printer' to begin using it.
