1. Press 'Power' to turn on your Canon iP90 printer.
2. Load a piece of letter-sized paper into the printer's paper tray.
3. Press and hold 'Resume/Cancel' until the power light flashes.
4. Examine the test page that prints. If the top grid portion of the pattern has any gaps in it, it means the black ink needs cleaning.
5. Click 'Cleaning' on the Pattern Check screen if you have determined that you need to clean the ink nozzles.
6. Select 'Black' to clean the black ink nozzles, then click 'Execute' to begin the cleaning process. Click 'OK' when prompted.
7. Click 'Print Check Pattern' once the cleaning process is complete. Examine the page that prints to see if the black ink pattern is now printing correctly.
Enable Composite Printing
1. Click the 'Start' button and select 'Printers and Other Hardware' from the Control Panel options. Click on 'Printers and Faxes.'
2. Click on 'Canon iP90.'
3. Click 'File' and select 'Printing Preferences' from the menu that appears.
4. Click to open the 'Maintenance' tab and then click 'Ink Usage Control.'
5. Select 'Use Composite Black' and click 'OK.'
Replace Cartridge
1. Press 'Power' to turn the printer on.
2. Lift the printer cover to open it.
3. Press the tab on the black ink tank and gently lift to remove it from the printer.
4. Remove the orange plastic cap from the new ink cartridge and insert it at an angle into the empty slot on the printer.
5. Press down on the ink cartridge where indicated until you hear a click.
6. Close the printer cover.
