1. Launch Word and type 'invitation' on the main start screen's search box. You can type 'baby shower' or 'shower invitation,' but this will restrict the results. Because you can customize all Word templates, a wider search gives you more from which to choose.
2. Scroll through the available template designs and double-click the one that most appeals. Once it loads in a new Word window, scroll through the page(s) to get a sense of the current design and what you'll want to change. Note that because the template is two-sided, you'll see, at a minimum, a cover and an inside area, usually with text.
3. Scroll to the cover of the invitation. To change the picture, click once on the image or images on the template and press the 'Delete' key. Click the 'Insert' tab, then click the 'Clip Art' button. Search the term 'baby' or 'baby shower' and double-click pictures from the results to add to the cover. You can also search for more specific terms, such as 'baby boy,' 'stork' or 'new baby twins.'
4. Click the “Pictures” button on the ribbon and browse to an image of your own to use, such as the pregnant mother or an excited big brother or sister. Add images to the front of the card as desired. To change an image’s size, which can be necessary if you’re adding multiple pictures for a collage look, press and hold down the “Ctrl” key, click the picture and drag the corner in toward the middle. Shrinking is always better than trying to enlarge.
5. Press 'Enter' to move below the picture on the cover and type the message, such as 'You’re invited!' or 'Shh! Surprise Shower!' To change the font formatting that came with the template, highlight what you just typed, click the 'Home' tab and use the options on the ribbon for fonts, colors and alignment.
6. Scroll to the inside of the card. Depending on the template, it may already have the fields you wish, such as “Time,” “Place,” “RSVP to,” “Registry” and others. If not, highlight and type over any of the text already on the card or type your own in the space provided. Format the text as you did with the cover. You can also add images to the inside of the card the same way you did with the cover.
7. Load paper into your printer. Note that with most home printers, two-sided printing is not possible, which means you’ll need to print one side, flip over the paper and print the other side. Save the file when printing is complete.
