How to Troubleshoot the HP Deskjet D4260

1. Check the power cable if the printer does not turn on. Make sure it is fully inserted into the back of the printer and securely plugged into a working outlet. Check the USB cable to make sure it is fully plugged into both the computer and printer.
2. Check the paper tray if the Resume light is flashing. The resume light has an icon that looks like a sheet of paper with an arrow on it. Make sure the printer has paper and that it is fully inserted into the tray. Pull out any jammed paper.
3. Restart the printer if both the power and resume lights are flashing. Press the power button to turn the printer off. Press the power button after a few seconds to turn it back on.
4. Close all unnecessary programs if documents print slowly. The computer resources may be insufficient for the printer to operate at normal speed if too many programs are open.
5. Replace one or both of the ink cartridges if the 'Low on Ink' error message appears while printing.
6. Reduce the amount of paper in the tray if ghe printer is not feeding paper correctly. Too much paper could cause the printer to feed more than one sheet at a time or not feed any paper at all.
7. Clean the print cartridges if horizontal lines appear on printed photos. Click 'Properties' or 'Preferences' from the print menu in the program you are using. Click the 'Features' tab from the printer properties box. Click 'Printer Services.' Select 'Clean the Print Cartridges.' Click 'Clean.'
