How to Use the Scanner on an HP Photosmart C3140

1. Log into your operating system and confirm that the HP Photosmart Software is installed and running. If necessary, install the software by inserting the CD that came packaged with your Photosmart 3140 and following the onscreen instructions (if you no longer have the CD, you may download the necessary software from directly from the HP website; see Resources).
2. Lift the copier/scanner cover and place your document face down on the glass. Align the edge of the document with the bottom-right corner of the glass (refer to the icon printed next to the scanner glass). Lower the copier/scanner cover.
3. Press the 'Start Scan' button, located at the bottom of the control panel; the Photosmart will now generate a preliminary scan of your document and send the result to your computer. Review the scan preview and adjust the brightness, contrast and orientation as desired. Click 'Accept' to confirm your changes and generate a final version of the document scan.
Scanning Multiple Images
1. Lift the copier/scanner cover and arrange your documents on the scanner glass, face down. Leave a small amount of space between documents; the computer will use this space to determine the boundaries of each document. Close the copier/scanner cover.
2. Open the 'HP Solution Center' application and select your Photosmart C3140 from the available options. Click on the 'Settings' button, followed by 'Scan Settings' and 'Scan Picture Settings.' Confirm that the option labeled 'Prompt for settings at the time of the scan' is activated and click 'Okay.'
3. Click on the 'Home' button, followed by 'Scan Picture.' Click on the button labeled 'Advanced Picture Settings.' Click on the option labeled 'Scan multiple files to individual files' and click 'OK.' Click 'Scan' to begin scanning your documents.
