1. Turn on your printer and computer.
2. Go to 'Start > All Programs > HP > Printer Assistant' on your computer. This is the program you need to clean the printer heads on your cartridges.
3. Select 'Clean Cartridges' to start the process of cleaning the printer heads on the cartridges.
4. Follow the instructions to restore your cartridges to their original condition. The process will take several minutes and several sheets of paper. It will ask you to wait for the printout, choose the best printout and reinsert it into the printer.
Manual Cleaning
1. Place some rubber gloves on your hands to protect them from ink.
2. Turn on the printer and lift up the cover.
3. Unsnap the cartridges from their holders and lift them out carefully.
4. Place the cartridges with the nozzle facing up.
5. Wet a cotton swab with some bottled water and carefully wipe the copper contacts (the metal piece with dots on it). Wipe off any ink on the metal contacts, but do not touch the ink nozzle itself. Reinsert the cartridges into their holders and flip down the cover.
