1. Lift your Whirlpool dryer's lint trap cover and, taking your Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the two screws holding the lint trap housing in place. Put the screws somewhere safe. Lift out the lint trap and the lint trap housing and place with the two screws you just removed. Lift up the top panel of your dryer and rest it on the control panel.
2. Unscrew the two screws on the inside top of the front dryer panel. Place the screws safely. Lift the front dryer panel and pull forward. Set the panel aside away from your working area.
3.
Take off the dryer belt and remove the tumbler. Set these two items aside. Now you have room to see what you are doing. Take your flathead screwdriver and place inside the thick metal clip at the front of the dryer motor. Force the clip off as the clip may be stiff.
4.
Release the back clip by unscrewing the screw that holds the clip.
5.
Go to the back of your Whirlpool dryer and unscrew all the screws that are keeping the pulley housing in place. Unscrew the pulley mechanism located four inches up from the bottom of the dryer in line with the dryer motor on the inside of the dryer. Pull out the spindle. This releases the dryer motor so that you can swap it out for the replacement motor.
6. Replace the spindle you unscrewed from the pulley at the back. Go around to the front of the dryer and poke the spindle through the dryer motor lining up the hole. Screw in the screw that you removed earlier that holds the back clip on the motor. Replace the front clip. Replace all the screws from the back of the dryer at the pulley housing.
7.
Replace the tumbler. Place the dryer belt around the tumbler, ribbed side toward the tumbler, lining it up with the black ring seen around the tumbler. Use the image to reroute the dryer belt correctly.
8. Replace the front dryer panel and replace the two screws from behind the top of the panel. Taking your flathead screwdriver, ensure that the dryer seal on the tumbler isn't caught inside the tumbler as this may cause a fire hazard. Pull top panel down and clip to front panel by pressing down on the top panel with your palms. Replace the dryer housing using the two screws that you removed. Replace the dryer lint trap and cover with its plastic flap. Try out your dryer.
