How to Troubleshoot Printers in Citrix (7 Steps)

1. Log in to a desktop computer as usual, without opening Citrix, and log on to the server hosting Metaframe. Open Notepad, or another simple document program, and type a few words. Then print the document. If the document fails to print, you have isolated a printer or print server problem, and the cause of the problem is unlikely to be Citrix. If it does not print normally, go to the next step.
2. Log in to the desktop experiencing the printer issues while using Citrix. Open Notepad within the Citrix session, type a few words and print the document. If the document does print, then the problem is most probably with an application being used within Citrix, and not with Citrix itself. If the Notepad document does not print, you have identified a potential Citrix printing issue, so continue to the next step.
3. Log in to the Metaframe server and verify that the Printer Settings under the User Properties are set properly, according to the network administrator's specifications.
4. Verify that the Citrix Connection Configuration is set properly on the Metaframe server, according to the network administrator's specifications. If they are correct, continue to the next step.
5. Verify that server hosting Citrix Metaframe is also configured as a print server. Locate the print driver on the server operating system.
6. Remove the printer driver from the server and reinstall the most recent version of that driver. This step will rule out an outdated or corrupted printer driver. If the printing problem persists, continue to the next step.
7. Verify with the printer manufacturer that the printer driver is compatible with Citrix.
