How to Adjust Settings in Adobe Photoshop (7 Steps)

1. Select 'New' from the 'File' menu after you have opened Photoshop to open up the 'New' dialog box.
2. Type the name of your new document in the 'Name' text box.
3. Choose a preset document option from the 'Preset' drop-down box or leave it at the 'Custom' setting so you can create your own document settings.
4. Change the width and height of your document using the 'Width' and 'Height' text boxes. You can use the default measurement of inches or you can change it to pixels, cm, mm, points, picas or columns. As you change your width and height, notice that over to the right it will tell you what your image size will be given those settings.
5. Type in a resolution amount in the 'Resolution' box. The higher the dpi (pixels per inch) the greater the print quality. You can also change the resolution so it is measured in pixels/cm if you prefer.
6. Select a 'Color Mode' option from the drop-down box. Choose from the options of Bitmap, Grayscale, RGB Color, CMYK Color or Lab Color.
7. Choose a 'Background Contents' option, choosing from White, Background Color or Transparent and click OK.
