How to Change the Ink Cartridge in an HP 4280

1. Turn the printer on and confirm that there is paper in the tray. After the new ink cartridges are loaded, the printer will need to run an alignment test. On the front of the printer, above and to the right of the paper tray, there is an access door that swings open sideways. Open the access door. The ink cartridges will move so that they can be reached through the door.
2. Press both print cartridges down until they pop out of their holders. If you will have difficulty remembering each cartridge's position, remove only one at a time. Once a cartridge is popped out of its holder, it can be lifted freely through the access door.
3. Prepare the new ink cartridges for installation by removing them from the packaging and removing the tape from the bottom of each cartridge. Be careful not to touch the delicate metal contacts on the bottom of the cartridges.
4. Install the cartridges by aligning them slightly below the holders, then pushing them up and forward until they snap into place. Close the access door when you are finished. A test sheet will begin printing to check the alignment of the cartridges.
5. Open the lid of the scanner and place the test page face down on the scanner bed. The upper-left corner of the test page should line up with the arrow in the corner of the scanner bed.
6. Push the 'Scan' button on the printer control panel. The scanner will scan the test page into the printer's memory, which will then be used to make any alignment adjustments that are necessary. The printer is ready to use when the test is complete.
