How to Reset Replace the Drum in an HP Color Laserjet 2840

1. Engage the scanner bed release button located to the bottom right of the front control panel. Lift the scanner bed to expose the drum cover. Be sure to remove any paper media from the top feeder tray before lifting the scanner bed.
2. Lift the drum cover, located directly underneath the scanner bed.
3. Examine the front inside portion of the machine and locate the drum handle. Rotate the drum so the drum handle extends towards the top of the machine.
4. Lift the imaging drum from the machine, using the handle.
5. Unpack the replacement drum. Set and hold the replacement drum on a steady work surface and remove the small side-mounted orange rings. Unscrew the shipping spacers installed on both ends of the drum.
6. Lift the orange-colored protective cover plate from the drum. Avoid touching the drum roller when removing the cover plate.
7. Insert the new drum into the machine, noting the alignment arrows featured on the left side of the machine's drum cradle and the left side of the replacement drum.
8. Tilt the replacement drum towards the front of the machine to lock the component in place. Close the drum cover and lower the scanner bed.
9. Turn on the machine and allow the new drum to initialize. After installing the new drum, the machine will automatically reset the drum counter.
