1. Examine the front of the printer and locate the control panel. Fit the control panel faceplate over the buttons on the control panel. Push down on the faceplate until it is securely in place. Connect the printer's power cord to the power adapter.
2. Examine the right side of the printer and locate the array of ports. Plug the power adapter into the power port, then plug the end of the power cord into a nearby outlet. Plug one end of the USB cable into the USB port, located next to the power port. Press the power button, located in the lower-right corner of the control panel. Wait for the printer to power on before proceeding.
3. Examine the display on the control panel. Follow the instructions shown on the display to input the printer's language and country settings. Reach under the front edge of the control panel. Lift the top section of the printer upwards.
4. Wait for the print carriage to move into view. Lift the lever on the right side of the print carriage. Remove the orange plastic from the printhead and insert it into the print carriage. Lower the lever.
5. Remove the orange cap from the end of the cyan ink cartridge. Examine the row of colored dots printed on the top of the printhead and find the cyan circle. Insert the cyan ink cartridge into the corresponding slot on the printhead. Push down on the cartridge until it snaps into place. Install the magenta, yellow and black ink cartridges in a similar manner.
6. Lift the paper output tray upwards and insert a stack of plain paper into the paper input tray. Align the paper guides with the edges of the stack of paper. Lower the paper output tray and pull out the output tray extension.
7. Insert the installation CD into your computer's optical drive; if you are using a Macintosh, connect the USB cable to your computer. Run the installer application and follow the on-screen instructions; if you are using a Windows PC, the computer will prompt you at the appropriate time to connect the USB cable.
