How to Connect My HP Deskjet Printer to My Dell Computer

1. Insert the installation CD that came with your HP Deskjet printer into the CD drive of your Dell computer. Click “Start” if the CD does not automatically start playing. Click “Computer” on the right side of the Start Menu. Double-click the drive associated with your Dell computer’s CD/DVD player to make the CD start playing.
2. Click “Install” on the first screen of the installation CD. Wait while the CD transfers the required files to your Dell computer. Click “Next” when the process is over. Click “Next” on the Do Not Block HP Install Wizard Processes screen.
3. Select the option to automatically check for updates and click “Next.” Select “Recommended” on the next screen to install all of the software from HP to make the printer work. Select “Custom” for a chance to choose which software you want to install to your Dell computer. Click “Next.”
4. Click “I agree” to accept HP’s licensing agreement. Click “Next” on the screen where HP thanks you for buying their product.
5. Place a check mark in the box next to “Add shortcuts to the Desktop” if you want to see a desktop shortcut to the software. Leave it blank if you would rather not. Click “Next.”
6. Turn on the HP Deskjet printer. Use the USB cable that came with the printer to connect it to your Dell computer’s USB port. Click “Next” when the screen displays “Product connected successfully.”
7. Click “Restart” when the installation wizard prompts you to restart your Dell computer. Click “Finish” when your computer restarts, automatically takes you back to the installation wizard and congratulates you on a successful installation.
