How to Learn Laser Printer Repair

1. Check your local technical institutes, community colleges, training or certification programs offered by the printer manufacturer or vocational technical schools to see if any printer repair or general computer repair classes are offered. A printer repair class will cover both inkjet and laser printers, while a general computer repair course should have at least a few sections covering printer repair.
2. Research do-it-yourself videos and articles, technical manuals and printer-specific manuals and support pages to get some ground knowledge. Even if you can't find a class that covers printer repairs near you, you can learn from the extensive troubleshooting and repair documentation provided on laser printer manufacturer sites such as Brother and HP. Video tutorials can also be found on popular laser printer models.
3. Offer to help friends and family with their laser printer problems. If no one has a laser printer that you can work with, check online sites to see if you can purchase second-hand laser printers to work on. Practice taking the printers apart and identifying each piece, then put it back together. Attempt to repair any printers that are not working properly. Perform general maintenance tasks on the printers such as toner replacement.
4. Check your area for computer repair shops and ask whether you could help with laser printer repair, once you have some hands-on knowledge or formal education.
