1. Turn on your HP laptop and log on. Make sure your laptop has at least one free USB port available. You can find the USB ports by looking for flat slots on the back or side of your computer.
2. Remove the Canon printer from the box and remove any packaging materials that came with it. Remove the tape that was used to hold the cover in place during shipment. Install the ink cartridges in the printer.
3. Plug the printer in to your UPS or surge protector and power it on. Insert the software installation CD that came with your printer into the CD or DVD drive. Wait for the software installation to finish.
4. Attach the USB wireless setup cable to the printer and computer when prompted. The square end of the USB cable will connect to the back of the printer, while the flat end will connect to a USB port on your laptop.
5. Remove the cable from the printer and computer when prompted. Then print a test print from the printer to make sure it is communicating with the computer.
