How Do I Reset an HP 96 Ink Cartridge? (9 Steps)

1. Pull the cartridges out of the printer and turn the contacts side of the cartridge face up. The contacts are the gold metal strips that connect the cartridge within the printer.
2. Place a piece of tape on the cartridges to cover the top four contacts.
3. Place the cartridges back into the printer, leaving the tape in place.
4. Close the printer lid. Wait approximately five seconds before opening the printer lid again. Wait for the printer to signal that there is an error with your ink cartridges. The printer lights will flash.
5. Remove the cartridges again, and move the pieces of tape over to the other side of the cartridges this time.
6. Place the cartridges back into the printer again, leaving the tape in place.
7. Close the printer lid. Wait approximately five seconds before opening the lid again. Wait for the printer to signal there is an error with your cartridges.
8. Take the cartridges out of the printer, remove the tape and make sure the contacts are clean of any residue from the tape.
9. Place the cartridges back into the printer. They should now read as full of ink.
