1. Check the Zebra printer for the model number. The model number should be printed at the front of the unit. Depending on the model, the number may also be shown on a small label on the bottom of the printer.
2. Open the top of the printer and insert the roll of labels. Extend the labels so that the first label is sticking out of the printer, then close the lid.
3. Attach the power cord to the printer and power it on. Push the large (usually blue) button on the top of the printer to send a label through, then pull that label out of the printer.
4. Turn on your computer and insert the software installation CD that came with the printer. Start the software installation process. Watch the screens carefully, and choose your printer model when prompted by the software. Keep in mind that the same installation CD can contain several different drivers, so be sure to choose the appropriate printer model during the software installation.
5. Accept the default path for the installation and click 'Next' to continue. Ensure that the correct printer model is shown on the next screen. The software will prompt you to attach the USB or parallel cable right before the installation is complete. When using a USB cable, locate the small square port on the back of the Zebra printer and insert the square end of the USB cable into that slot. Look for the small, flat USB port on the front or back of your computer, and insert the flat end of the cable into that slot. For parallel cables, locate the large rectangular port on the back of the Zebra printer, attach the largest end of the printer cable to that port, and flip the clamps down to hold it in place. Then take the smaller end of the cable and attach it to the large, rectangular parallel port on the back of the computer. On most computer models, this port will be red in color.
6. Click on the 'Start' button and choose 'Control Panel' from the menu. Double-click on 'Printers and Faxes' and highlight your new Zebra printer. Right-click and choose 'Properties,' then click the 'Print Test Page' button to send a test page to the printer.
