How to Make a Printer Cover (11 Steps)

1. Measure your printer: height (top of printer to desk), depth (back to front) and width (side to side).
2. Add 5/8 inch to all sides of all pieces for seam and narrow-hem allowance.
3. Make a pattern from newspaper: Draw each piece using the measurements you've taken and cut it out; you'll use it to cut out the fabric. You should have five pieces: one top and four sides.
4. Use the pattern pieces to calculate how much fabric you will need; get it; and preshrink it if necessary.
5. Pin the pattern to the fabric and cut out your cover.
6. Pin the four sides to the top, right sides together, and sew.
7. Bring the sides together, right sides together, and sew (with each seam, your amorphous mass of fabric will begin to assume the shape of a cube).
8. Narrow hem the bottom edge.
Narrow Hemming
1. Turn over 1/4 inch and press.
2. Turn over another 1/4 inch and press again.
3. Machine stitch.
