How to Massage Feet to Relieve Gout (5 Steps)

1. Remove your socks and shoes and sit on a soft, cushioned surface. Soft couches work best. You will be massaging your own foot, so you will need to lean back and pull your feet towards you. Soft, comfortable couches work well.
2. Lift your left foot and lay it on its side on your right knee. You will begin with this foot if you are right handed. It is easier to learn on your left foot if your right hand is your dominant hand. If you are left handed, begin with your right foot.
3. Locate the ball of your foot. This is the thick pad on the sole of your foot beneath the base of your toes. Between this pad and the base of your big toe, apply pressure with your left thumb. You can apply as much pressure as you would like. You can also begin rubbing in small, clockwise circles on this particular spot. Do this for about five minutes.
4. Repeat the third step with the opposite foot. If you are right handed, you will repeat with your right foot. This time, use your right thumb to apply pressure.
5. Switch feet again so that you are working on your left foot. Even if you are left handed, work on your left foot during this step. On the pinky side of your foot, rub the point halfway between your heel and the base of your pinky toe. Rub this area for another five minutes. Do not switch to your right foot.
