How to Adjust a Wide Screen Laptop to a Projector

1. Connect the laptop to the projector. Usually this involves running a cable from the monitor out port on the laptop to the input port on the projector. (The port is found on the back of the laptop and looks like a small trapezoid with pinholes.)
2. Turn on the laptop and the projector. The laptop should automatically recognize the projector and the projector should automatically display the image from the laptop screen.
3. Adjust the projector's focus, zoom, brightness and keystone until the image is crisp by either manually adjusting the lens of the projector, by accessing the display menu on the projector or using a set of buttons. The projector may need to be physically raised or lowered. (Consult the manual for your particular projector model.)
4. Determine the resolution of your projector. Many projectors use an XGA resolution that translates to 1024 x 768 pixels. Some may be SVGA, which is 800 x 600 pixels. These numbers will help you determine how to adjust your laptop settings.
5. Right-click on the desktop and then click on 'Properties.' Select 'Settings.' Toggle the screen resolution slider to match the resolution of the projector. For example, if you have an XGA resolution projector, move the slider until it says 1024 x 768. Click 'Apply' and select 'Yes' to keep the settings. Your laptop output will now match the projector.
