How to Scan an Image for High Resolution (5 Steps)

1. Open your scanner application. There should be a shortcut key to the printer/scanner on your desktop screen. Click on it to open.
2. Click the button labeled 'Scan Picture.' A new window will appear asking you where to store the scanned photo. An area has been preselected for you, but you can change it by clicking on a different location. For example, you can request the scanned photo be sent to a file or an email.
3. Click 'Change Settings.' Click the 'Advanced Picture Settings' button then adjust the drop-down menu next to the word 'PPI.' PPI stands for pixels per inch. Click 'OK' to apply the change. The higher the number you select, the greater the resolution. The standard is 300 PPI. However, if you want to double the size of a photo, scan it at 600 PPI. You can select up to 4,800 PPI. Remember, high resolution means your scanned photos will be a large file size.
4. Press the 'Scan' button to scan your photo. After it scans you will have the option to crop your photo or make other changes to it.
5. Click 'Finish' to complete the scanning process.
