How to Receive a Brother PC Fax

1. Insert the installation disc that was included with the fax machine into the CD drive of your computer. When the auto-run window appears, select the option to install the software, then follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
2. Open the Start menu, then click 'Printers and Faxes.'
3. Click 'Setup Faxing,' located on the left sidebar of the 'Printers and Faxes' window. Windows will automatically set up the computer for faxing. Follow the on-screen prompts and click 'Next' when necessary. After the setup is complete, a fax machine icon will appear in the 'Printers and Faxes' window.
4. Open the Fax Console by opening the Start menu, then clicking 'All Programs,' followed by 'Accessories,' 'Communications,' 'Fax' and, finally, 'Fax Console.'
5. Select your country from the drop-down menu and enter your area code. If it is necessary to dial a specific number to reach an outside line, enter it in the box labeled 'If you dial a number to access an outside line, what is it?' If no number is needed to reach an outside line, leave the box blank. Click 'OK' to continue.
6. Ensure that the radio button beside 'My Location' is selected and click 'OK' to launch the Fax Configuration Wizard.
7. Select your Brother fax machine from the drop-down menu and place a check mark beside 'Enable Receive.' Place another check mark beside 'Enable Send' if you would like to send faxes from your computer.
8. Click 'Next' and follow the prompts to complete the installation. Once finished, the fax console will continue to run in the background, and will automatically download faxes as they are received. The fax console must be open to receive faxes on the computer.
