How to Reset an Epson C42SX

1. Open the printer cover and press and hold the Maintenance button for 10 seconds or until the print head moves the cartridge to the replacement position. The Maintenance button is identified by an ink droplet icon and a paper icon.
2. Pull up the ink cartridge clamp and slide the cartridge out.
3. Remove the yellow tab from the new print cartridge, slide it into the printer and press down firmly.
4. Close the ink cartridge clamp, press the Maintenance button and wait for the red error light to go out.
Print Head Alignment
1. Verify that at least one sheet of letter-sized paper is loaded into the printer.
2. Right-click the 'Printer' icon in your system tray and select 'Print Head Alignment.'
3. Follow the on-screen prompts to print a test page.
4. Consult the printed test page and determine which of the printed patterns most accurately displays two lines laid on top of one another.
5. Click boxes '1,' '2' and '3' on the Print Head Alignment dialog and select the patterns corresponding to those on the test page.
6. Click the 'Realignment' button to have the C42SX realign its print head accordingly.
7. Press the 'Finish' button.
Clean Print Head
1. Right-click the 'Printer' icon in your system tray and select 'Head Cleaning.'
2. Follow the onscreen prompts to initiate the head-cleaning process. This process takes roughly 30 seconds.
3. Load a piece of letter paper into the printer. When the Power light stops flashing, click the 'Nozzle Check' button on the Head Cleaning prompt to print a nozzle check pattern.
4. Consult the printed nozzle check pattern. If the pattern has no lines or gaps, click 'Finish' on the Head Cleaning prompt. If gaps or lines appear, repeat steps 2 and 3.
