How to Troubleshoot the HP Printer Lines

1. Print a test page and examine the resuls. Look for streaks, lines and dots that could indicate a leaking toner or inkjet cartridge. Also look for ink that rubs off easily, as this could indicate a problem with the fuser cartridge.
2. Open the right side of the printer and lift out the toner cartridge if you are working with a laser printer. For a deskjet printer, lift the lid and wait for the print cartridges to move to the center.
3. Use a clean, dry cloth to thoroughly clean the area under the toner cartridge. Be sure to wipe up any spilled toner and paper dust. Remove the ink cartridges if you are working with an inkjet printer. Use a cotton swab to clean the bottom of the cartridge where it connects to the printer. Use a clean, dry cloth to clean the inside of the inkjet printer.
4. Replace the toner or inkjet cartridge and close up the printer. Print a test page and check its quality. If the ink is rubbing off, you will need to replace the fuser cartridge. To remove the existing fuser cartridge, open the left-hand door of your laser printer and flip down the retaining clips. Slide the fuser out of the printer and slide in the new fuser cartridge. Flip up the retaining clips and close the door.
