How to Troubleshoot an HP F4185 Printer (3 Steps)

1. Unplug your HP Deskjet F4185 printer from your power strip and plug it directly into an electrical outlet if the printer does not turn on. If the printer's power problem persists, make sure that you did not press the power button on the front of the printer too quickly, as the button needs to be held for several seconds to turn the printer on.
2. Remove the packing tape from your ink cartridges if you notice that your prints are coming out faded or distorted. Take each ink cartridge out of its holder inside of the printer and be sure to not touch the ink nozzle. Using your finger gently peal and remove the golden tape that protects the ink nozzle. Place both ink cartridges back into the printer.
3. Connect your HP Deskjet F4185 directly to your computer's USB port and avoid using a USB hub if the printer does not print on command. Ensure that the USB wire that connects the printer to your computer is no longer than 9.8 feet, as longer cables are not supported.
