How to Troubleshoot the Samsung SF

1. Remove any documents left to fax from the automatic document feeder if the fax display shows 'Document Jam' while trying to fax. Gently pull the jammed document from the feeder and put the remaining papers back.
2. Remove documents from the feeder if there is a jam with the papers coming out of the fax. Grip the bottom of the control panel where the papers feed through, and pull it up and then pull the document out of the feeder. Close the control panel and load the documents back into the feeder.
3. Open and close the front cover of the fax machine if there is a paper jam; the paper should exit the machine. If the paper does not come out, locate the area of the jam and remove the paper manually. A message displaying 'Paper Jam 0' is in the paper tray, 'Paper Jam 1' is around the toner cartridge or in the manual feeder and 'Paper Jam 2' is in the paper exit area.
4. Ensure the paper is below the capacity mark on the inside of the paper tray to avoid paper jams. Also, don't remove the paper while the machine is printing, fan the paper before loading it and don't mix paper types.
Error Messages
1. Ask the sender to try sending the fax again if 'Comm. Error' is displayed on the screen; there is a communication problem.
2. Install the toner cartridge if you see the message 'Jam 1' or 'No cartridge.' Open the front cover, remove the old toner, gently roll the new cartridge to distribute the toner, slide the toner into the machine until it locks and close the front cover.
3. Try sending the fax again in a few minutes if the message 'Line Busy' or 'Line Error' is displayed. The remote fax did not answer, is busy or your machine was unable to connect.
4. Unplug the fax machine and then plug it back in if you see 'Low Heat Error,' 'Open Heat Error' or 'Over Heat'; there is a problem in the fuser unit.
5. Start your fax again if the message 'Power Failure' is displayed. This message means the power has turned off and the fax you were sending was not saved.
Fax Problems
1. Test the phone line with another phone to make sure it is working properly if you do not hear a dial tone.
2. Ensure the document is not wrinkled, is the correct size and that the control panel is closed if the document does not feed into the machine.
3. Make a copy to check your toner if an incoming fax has blank spaces or is of poor quality. Replace the toner if necessary. If the problem persists, have the sender try the fax again; their machine may have a problem.
4. Verify you have set the correct paper setting if blank areas appear at the bottom of the page. Press 'Menu' then 'Enter' to access 'Paper Setting,' use the left or right arrow to select the paper type you are using and press 'Enter.' Press the right arrow to scroll to 'Paper Size,' press 'Enter' two times and use the left or right arrow to select the paper size. Press 'Enter' to save the size and then press 'Stop/Clear.'
