How to Troubleshoot an HP 4600

1. Unplug the USB cable from the back of your HP Photosmart c4600 printer if you are having issues installing the device. Remove the HP printer software from your computer if you have already installed it, then reboot your computer. Turn the printer off and let it sit for about one minute, then power it back on to perform a power cycle. Reinstall the printer software using the CD that came with your printer to complete the installation process.
2. Check your HP Photosmart c4600's ink cartridges if the printer prints blank pages. Open up the lid of the printer and gently remove the ink cartridges from their bays using your fingers. Avoid touching the gold contacts on the cartridges or they might no longer function properly. Peal off the pink plastic packaging tape from the cartridges and put them back into the printer.
3. Increase your HP Photosmart c4600's dpi settings if your printed documents are distorted. It is likely your printer's resolution settings are too low. Right-click on the printer icon on the lower-left corner of your computer screen. Click on the 'Properties' tab and open the 'Advanced' menu. Check off the box next to the option called 'Enable maximum dpi setting'. Press the 'OK' button to apply your new settings and reprint your document.
4. Press firmly on your HP Photosmart c4600's rear access door until it locks into place if your printed documents are coming out off-center. If the problem persists, remove all sheets of paper from the printer's tray and put them back in. This will ensure the paper was fed into the printer properly.
